How To Keep Your Family Safe When Vacationing In Virginia Beach This Year

With lockdowns mostly lifted and summer heat bearing down, many people are looking forward to a relaxing vacation in Virginia Beach.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention still advises that staying home is the safest choice – especially for those who are sick or were exposed to COVID-19 recently. And the virus continues to be a serious threat to the elderly and people with certain health conditions.

Still, most experts say that the virus is much less likely to spread outdoors, and it dies relatively fast in direct sunlight. So for those looking for a change of scenery without ignoring safety, we put together some tips to help keep you and your family healthy, whether you plan to stay in a condo, hotel, or beach house.

1. Know the Rules: Call ahead or read up on the regulations for the area you plan to visit. The current rules differ in from county to county and even from beach to beach. Many of Virginia’s public beaches still limit beach gatherings to 10 people and require social distancing, and some communities restrict beach access during certain hours.

2. Stay 6 feet apart

3. Ask the hotel or property rental company about its cleaning procedures. The CDC says that the virus spreads much more easily from person to person than it does from surfaces, but it doesn’t hurt to find out how well your temporary home will be cleaned and sanitized before you arrive. Wash the sheets when you arrive, if possible – even if they already look laundered – and bring some sanitizing spray or wipes to use on high-touch surfaces.

4. Have food and groceries delivered. Avoid the potential exposure, save yourself the shopping time, and avoid potentially crowded restaurants and bars altogether. Call ahead of time to our restaurant for to-go orders or see if delivery options are available!

5. Take the stairs. If you are staying in a high-rise condo or hotel, understand that it’s difficult to maintain a 6-foot distance in elevators. So consider taking the stairs instead; not only will it provide some exercise, it will save you time waiting on busy elevators. If you must take the elevators, mask up!

In addition to these steps, continue to follow the same safety practices you would at home, including wearing a mask when you can’t maintain social distance, washing your hands or using hand sanitizer often, covering your coughs and sneezes, avoid touching your face, and isolating anyone who shows possible COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever.

At the end of the day, it’s important to still make memories and enjoy time with our families this summer, We can still accomplish that, but just in a way that keeps the health and safety of ourselves and others top of mind.

Re-Opening Update

Amidst social distancing, shelter in place rules, working from home and school closures, our days are different and our challenges, unique. Parents are trying to figure out how they can work and educate their children at the same time. The elderly and home-bound are more isolated than ever before. Grocery stores and retailers are facing extraordinary demands on supply chains and millions of people are finding themselves with dramatically reduced work or no job at all.

As a result, collectively our lives have drastically changed and our concern – for ourselves, for our communities and for one another – is heightened.

We want you to know we are in this with you and committed to serving our community with the upmost attention to safety – both for our operators, team members, staff, and their families. As we navigate this ever evolving and challenging situation, we want to share with you some of the principles we are using to inform our decisions specifically during these difficult times.

In the coming weeks, you may see some restaurants open their doors for dine-in patrons once again. Although we are not opening dining room seating just yet, guests may notice changes inside our restaurants, including plexiglass partitions and hand sanitizer stations available for use. We will provide contactless ordering and ask guests to practice social distancing as they wait in line. Look for signage to help you navigate any operational changes within our restaurant.

We put the health of guests and team members first and continue to follow relevant state and local health guidelines. In all of these changes, practicing safe-service is our first priority.

As some states begin to ease restrictions on the closure of local businesses, we are going to take additional time to review our operations and ensure we have necessary precautions in place to protect our guests and team members before we reopen our dining rooms. In the meantime, you can still enjoy our food through curbside pick-up, 3rd party delivery (GrubHub, DoorDash, etc.), and you can take advantage of contactless ordering and payment by giving us a call or ordering online.

In accordance with CDC recommendations, our restaurant began supplying staff with face masks or other face coverings. In addition, we have set up multiple hand sanitizing stations for our staff to frequently sanitize their hands.

We look forward to continuing to serve you and our local community even with the changes that have taken place.

My old aunts would come up to me at weddings and ask, “Well, Sarah, are you next?” That really bothered me so I decided I would ask them the same question at funerals.
